If the links stop working on your WordPress site because you have been playing in the .htaccess file, follow these instructions to get your links back working.
1. Delete the .htaccess file
2. Go to the permalink tag in the options section of WordPress, then just click save this will remake a new .htaccess file.
This would be at root level.
